TMD 20m x 7.6m (65' x 25') NorthSea Far Offshore RO-RO Installation & Maintenance Crew Catamaran
This design has been entered in the 2011 Carbon Trust OWA competition for far offshore wind farms
North SeaCat is an unsinkable, fast, safe and stable catamaran installation and maintenance crew boat specifically designed for the Far Offshore Wind Farm Industry for Round 3 UK and European wind farm operators and for similar operators globally. It has a HIGH under wing deck clearance and HIGH fine entry bows along with other unique features allowing it to operate in 3 metre high seas and remain on station while transferring men and equipment on and off an offshore wind turbine tower platform.
Using a Dynamic Positioning System and Motion Control System the North SeaCat will provide a stationary, stable, platform to allow the safe transfer of technicians and equipment from the vessel to the tower platform and back. The transfer itself is carried out using the PTFPersonal Transfer System mounted on the turbine tower and four vessel mounted proximity sensors. The vessel never comes in contact with the tower.
This model has also been designed with RO-RO capability allowing it to be launched and retrieved simply and unaided from the stern launching ramp of a Mother-Ship, which is much faster and safer than the over the side lifting method. It also has other UNIQUE features that are propriortary and can only be disclosed to serious parties after signing our Non Disclosure Agreement. All our commercial designs are built using epoxy resin infused carbon fibre and kevlar foam sandwich. This combination is presently the lightest and strongest low maintenance method available. Carbon fibre is the material of choice for Boeing and Airbus to construct the fuselage and wings of their latest commercial airliners, which atests to its outstanding abilities. It is superior to aluminium; it is stronger, lighter, does not corrode or sweat and is quieter.
The lightweight of our carbon fibre moulded construction has ongoing economies of scale that will manifest themselves in the form of lower construction costs, lower operating costs and lower ongoing maintenance costs. The savings on fuel used will preserve the Mother-Ships bunkers allowing it to stay on site longer, or require fewer visits from refueling barges.
